VULab is tool designed for remote usability research. A unique feature of VULab is that it can record video and audio of remote users' interactions with their computer without the need to install an application on the users' computer.
VULab is being developed by a team of researchers led by Dr. Ron Owston, Director, Institute for Research on Learning Technologies at York University, Toronto, Canada. The project grew out of the Simulation and Advanced Gaming Environments (SAGE) for Learning research network as a tool for studying the usability of educational games. In April 2007, the project received funding from the Andrew Mellon Foundaton to develop VULab as a tool for general usability research and to distribute it as an open source application.
