The 2010 Canadian Games Studies Association annual conference will be held in Montreal this year from May 28-29, in conjunction with the Congress of the Social Sciences & Humanities. This year, the theme for the congress is "Le savoir branché/Connected understandings".
As usual, we invite both national and international paper proposals, on digital games research, broadly defined. In keeping with this year's Congress theme we also encourage work that arises from 'connections' among scholars, researchers, and player communities -- ie. that represents and reports on collaborative work across linguistic, institutional, and disciplinary boundaries.
Please send your extended abstracts, maximum 500 words, to either Jen Jenson (jjenson@edu.yorku.ca) or Nick Taylor (nickttayor@gmail.com) by January 10, 2010.
For information about the event, please contact Cindy Poremba, site co-ordinator (c_poremb@alcor.concordia.ca).
The South of Britain Consortium are pleased to announce the first Call for Papers for the Digital Games Research Association 2009. DiGRA is an organisation that embraces all aspects of game studies, and the conference aims to provide a diverse platform for discussion, and a lively forum for debate. We therefore welcome papers from any discipline focused on any aspect of games, play, game culture and the games industry. The conference will be the fourth DiGRA conference, following Utrecht, Vancouver and Tokyo, and welcomes contributions from scholars working in any area of interest to the association. The official business of the Subject Association will also be conducted at the conference.

We're proud to announce that we have received funding to hold a CGSA Invitational Workshop on September 19-21 in Vancouver BC!
The theme of the workshop will be consolidation through extension. By inviting active collaboration across a developing scholarly community of practice, the workshop will serve to outline synergies and map out lines of assent and dissent, across the specific projects and research trajectories of invited Canadian faculty. The European scholars we have invited are particularly well-qualified to offer well-informed, critical perspectives on the ‘cartography’ of games studies across the presentations, and in their more distanced scholarly communities; we will welcome their viewpoints on the field’s ‘foundations’, in the form of assessments, criticisms, and suggestions for the advancement of our research individually and collectively, to critically inform the future development of the field in this country.

General guidelines
As some of you may recall, at our meeting in 2006 at York University, a decision was made to register CGSA as a scholarly society. In accordance with this decision, our first annual general meeting as a society was held Friday, November 15th, 2007 in the Novotel Hotel, Downtown Toronto. This meeting was held in conjunction with the Futureplay 2007 conference.
One important item of business for the AGM was the issue of nominations for the CGSA Board of Directors. Board terms are for one year and the following Board positions were open to nomination: President, Vice-President, Secretary Treasurer and Members-at-Large.
The following were nominated for the roles as specified:

We'd like to thank all who showed up and took part in this year's AGM and hope to see you all again next year!
